River Ridge Track and Field Coaches – 

Barry Lakes – Head Girls Coach

Coach Lakes is entering his 32nd year of teaching and coaching. He started his coaching career at East Rome High School then Rome High School. Coach Lakes has been coaching track for 17 years and he started the track program here at River Ridge when the school opened 10 years ago.  He was selected Region girls track coach of the year in 2012 and 2014 when his teams were Region Champions.  In 2013 his girls team finished 2nd.  He’s also a coach football and basketball here at River Ridge High School. Coach Lakes played football at Clark College now known as Clark Atlanta University and earned All-Conference there for 1 year before ending his college career with a knee injury. He is married to Mavis and they have two daughters Marissa Lakes-Williams and Brianna. Marissa is a teacher and Volleyball Coach at Cherokee High School and Brianna is a medical student at MUSC in Charleston, South Carolina. Along with his head coaching duties, Coach Lakes will be coaching the horizontal and vertical Jumps. Coach Lakes teaches in the Heath and Physical Education department.

Andy Schultz – Head Boys Coach

Coach Schultz will be entering his 25th year as a head track and field coach.  Before coming to River Ridge to teach Special Education and coach football last year, he spent 17 years as Roswell High’s head coach where his teams won 7 Region and 4 Fulton County championships and had 3 top ten finishes in the state. He started his coaching career at Stone Mountain and with 1 year at Fork Union Military Academy in VA where they won indoor and outdoor state championships.  Coach Schultz has coached multiple individual state qualifiers in the sprints, hurdles and throws.  Most recently the 2016 girls and boys 7A state champions in the shot put.  Coach Schultz ran track and played football at Western Carolina University where he was a 3-time All-Conference selection in the 400 and 400 hurdles and a second team All-Conference Wide Receiver. “Thank you for the opportunity to coach your kids, but they must always remember this… If you want to be the best you must train smarter, harder, and believe; then it is between you and the track”.  Coach Schultz is married to Jennifer and they have two daughters Riley(12) and Lilli (9).  His wife also teaches Special Education in the county at Sequoyah HS.

Keith Hooper  – Assistant Coach

Coach Hooper is entering his 12th year coaching track and field and is starting his 3rd year coaching the distance program at River Ridge.  He is the Head Cross Country coach were this year’s 2018 girls team place 10th in the state.  Coach Hooper teaches Spanish here at the Ridge.  He has two daughters Nicole (27) and Frida (21) with his wife of 28 years Maria Campos Hooper.  Coach Hooper has also coached Soccer and wrestling during his teaching career.

Joey Brunet – Assistant Coach

Coach Brunet is in his first-year coaching track and field at River Ridge.  He will be coaching the throwers and multi-event athletes.  He and his wife Bridgett have a beautiful daughter Alexis who is 2 years old.  Coach is looking forward to learning under the tutelage of the experienced coached here at River Ridge. Coach Brunet teaches history and economics in the Special Education department.

Michelle Friesz – Community Coach

Coach Friesz is entering her second year of coaching the River Ridge Track and Field team. She will be coaching horizontal jumpers and short distance athletes. Coach Friesz is a River Ridge alum and competed for five years on the track and field team. She went on to get her Bachelor of Science in Nursing from Kennesaw State University and is currently a registered nurse at Northside Cherokee.

Drew Neidhammer – Community Coach

Coach Neidhammer is entering his entering his 13th year of coaching and starting his 3rd year coaching at River Ridge.  His coaching career started at Colonial Hills in 1991 coaching football winning two state championships 93’ & 94’ then becoming head coach in 96’.  He became the head track coach in 94’ winning two state track titles in 94’ & 95.  In 2002 Coach Neidhammer started the first High School Home School football program in the United States located here in Woodstock.  A graduate of Towson State University, he was a 4 year letter winner in indoor/outdoor track and was named a student assistant coach.  He is married to Sharon for 27 yrs. and have three children Allison (25), Miranda (22) and Peyton (20).  Both Miranda and Peyton graduated from River Ridge.  He will be coaching hurdles, vertical jumps and working with sprinters.  Coach Neidhammer is employed by FedEx where he is a World-Wide Account Executive.
