River Ridge Lady Knights Varsity fell 5-2 to Sprayberry on Saturday despite out-hitting them eleven to five.
Taylor Wood was in the circle for Sprayberry. She surrendered two runs on eleven hits over seven innings, striking out one.
Gracie Hughes led things off in the circle for River Ridge Lady Knights Varsity. She surrendered four runs (1 earned), on three hits over four and a third innings, striking out nine. Micah Jones threw one and two-thirds innings in relief out of the bullpen giving up 2 hits, 1 walk, and 1 earn run. .
River Ridge Lady Knights Varsity collected 11 hits. Lily Bell, Hughes, and Cat McCulley each managed multiple hits for River Ridge Lady Knights Varsity. Bell led River Ridge Lady Knights Varsity with three hits on the day.
Sprayberry’s Audrey Johnson went 2-for-3 at the plate to lead Lady Jackets in hits.
“We did a few things well today. Pitching was excellent from Gracie and Micah. We got enough runners on base but struggled on making hard contact to get them in. I think we probably left 10 or so runners on base. Defensively we made a handful of errors and mental miscues that costed us as well. Monday we will focus on what we need to get better at and go to battle again on Tuesday.” Lady Knights skipper Andy Marinelli stated after his team’s loss.

River Ridge (14-8;11-5) plays Etowah(14-7:11-3) at Etowah HS at noon on Tuesday September 24.
