The game was rolling along smoothly as River Ridge had a semi-comfortable 6-0 lead going into the 7th inning, but then the tide changed as Allatoona plated 6 runs via 3 walks, 6 base hits and 2 defensive mistakes to tie the game in a matter of minutes. With the game on the line going into bottom of the 7th, Elyse Navarro scorched a single to center. Micah Jones moved Navarro over to 2nd on a sacrifice bunt, Grace Hamrick got a single to left and she took second on the throw to third. With a intentional walk to Kaytlin Stacey, walks up Freshman Alexis Haehn to the plate. First pitch and BOOM!, ball game!! Haehn singles home Navarro and Lady Knights escape a close one. Rver Ridge 7 – Allatoona 6.
Sydney Osada started the game for the Lady Knights and pitch scoreless ball for 4 innings. Sophomore Gracie Hughes came in and pitched in relief and pitched a scoreless 5th and 6th inning. When trouble was brewing in the 7th, Osada re-entered in the 7th.
“Sydney and Gracie pitched a good game tonight. Gotta give Allatoona credit on how they fought to their last out tonight. Once a team gets momentum in an inning, it is very hard to slow it down. That is softball, things can change quick in this game. I think we learned that tonight and we will be better for it going forward.” Head Coach Andy Marinelli quoted after the game.
Sophomores Cat McCulley and Elyse Navarro led the offense tonight with 3 base hits each. Navarro had 2 RBI’s and 1 run scored. Sophomore Gracie Hughes smacked her third homerun on the season, as she had a 2 for 3 night with 2 RBI’s and 2 runs scored. Senior Becca Bray and sophomore Grace Hamrick also had a multi-hit night with 2 hits a piece.
Osada picks up her 7th win on the year. Her pitching line was 4.67 IP, 3 Hits, 6 K, 1 BB and 0 ER. Hughes pitching line is 2.33 IP, 5 hits, 4 K, 4 BB, and 2 ER.
