The Lady Knights Soccer Program honored some of its alumni by retiring their numbers. With any program, there are ups and downs that teams must work through. They must learn how to win and lose. Overcome adversity. Challenge each other. Form bonds, friendships, and create memories that will remain throughout a lifetime. Athletes must excel in the classroom and on the playing field, all the while being role models for those who come after them. This is no easy task, even for the best of us. We honor four young women who did just this, as they led their soccer teams to success, and as individual excelled as students and players. They led through example, hard work, and dedication…leaving behind a foundation for future players.
The current Lady Knights soccer team has adopted a motto of “Leave Your Legacy”, in the hopes of accomplishing what these alumni did during their tenure. They are encouraged to study, play, and live a positive life as they would want to be remembered upon graduation. These four women have all kinds of individual accomplishments: Goals, assists, scholarships, region championships, all-region and county teams, and state playoff runs, but what is most admirable is their dedication to their teams and the legacy they left behind.
With Coach Goodbread’s and Coach Rice’s recommendations, Coach Dillon wanted to honor players that met the above criteria by retiring their jersey numbers, to never be worn again …to be admired and remembered, so every player that follows can see what it takes to achieve such lofty goals. That these goals aren’t found just on the soccer field, but in every aspect of the life they live. It is for these reasons we present these girls with tokens of our appreciation and thank them for leaving behind such a great legacy. The honorees are:
Shannon Driscoll, Class of 2013 #10. Shannon earned her degree from Kennesaw State University where she was a 4-year starter. Shannon scored River Ridge’s 1st ever varsity goal!
Chanel Mosley, Class of 2014 #12. Chanel went on to play at Shorter University and will be graduating with a bachelor’s degree in both Nursing and General Studies in May. She has been a 4-year starter in high school and college while anchoring the defense.
Brooke DeSantis, Class of 2016 #11. Brooke went on to play at the University of Michigan, where she is currently studying. Brooke had an amazing career at River Ridge with 91 goals and was inducted into the Cherokee County Sports Hall of Fame in 2016.
Maddie Curry, Class of 2018 #6. Maddie is currently enrolled at Georgia College and University in Milledgeville. Her high school career ended on a high note of being named Co-Region Player of the Year as well playing in the Di-Varsity State All-Star game!
These are our first numbers retired by the River Ridge Lady Knights soccer team, and hopefully will not be our last!
We also want to honor Coach Goodbread as she was instrumental in building a program of excellence, that won region championships and made state tournament runs! She developed skilled and competitive soccer teams that brought concern into every opponent she faced. Most importantly, she helped shape young women become the best they could be in and out of the classroom. The evidence lies in these girls honored. Because of that, we will also be retiring the Jersey #1 for her commitment to building an extraordinary program for generations of girls to follow as our inaugural coach. Thank you for leaving your legacy!
